The pack's den. Most prey stays away from here, but there is the occasional moronic vole that clambers through in a forage for its own food. To the west of the clearing (right of picture) is the den, and further beyond is the stream that cuts through the territory

Jackpot Grove Storm

The sun rose on a typical spring day. The hubbub of pack life was gentler than normal. There were no enthusiastic conversations about who would be doing what, or what would be accomplished. That there was no talk was perfectly fine to the tawny female, but that the sun shone and no one was doing anything was an endless bother. Why did I even bother? she thought bitterly, looking out to the faces that she would not take the effort to get to know.

Because, if she ever had to address one of them, she would call him or her "you" and be on with it. There was no point in forging bonds when there was life to take care of. Really, who had thought that there was any time for friendship when so much had to be done? "
There isn't," she muttered to herself before rising to her paws and stretching out her limbs. Never had she let herself sleep in so late. It was despicable.

And, it was only a matter of time before any one of the pack picked up on just
who she was. The longer that it took, the better. The last thing that she wanted was countless fawning wolves hanging over her in anticipation of a story. While the pack slept (and, mind you, if she had been in a worse mood, she would have woken them, but this was a good mood for her) Storm began carefully grooming her pelt until it gleamed magnificently. This was the kind of thin that irritated her the most. She was a wolf of outstanding importance. Why could the earth not see that? Why did it insist on dirtying her pelt?

Shaking out the fur on her head, then moving it down until her tail had fluffed out, Storm growled. This had gone on long enough. Why were they not up yet? There was prey to be hunted, and the herd was bound to move on at any point.

Xanthos murmured softly in his sleep. He was so comfortable and warm with the suns dappled rays shone through the trees. The male didn't want to get up, sleep was just so nice. Letting out another murmur, he was finally roused from his sleep.

Lifting his head, sleepy eyes looking about the world around him, Xanthos opened his jaws in a wide yawn. He fought the urge to go right back to sleep but knew he couldn't sleep all day. As much as he would like to.

Rising to his paws, the light brown male shook out his coat which helped to rid him of some of his sleepiness. Trotting over to Strom he smiled at the larger female. Xanthos didn't really like his smaller size but he would live with it. It wasn't like he could grow any larger if he wanted to. "Hello, Storm," he barked cheerfully. "So what are we doing today." Sitting down he raised his rear leg to scratch behind his ear, waiting for her reply.

-----------

Valkyrie slept away from the pack, his white coat gleaming in the darkest night. His ears flicked to hearing a mutter, and then a yawn from another. The pack was starting to stir. Valkyrie had been awake for some time now, his eyes only closed, resting, looking as if he were peacefully asleep. He heard one of them get to its paws and move around, before talking to Storm. She was one of the leaders. Valkyrie hadn't had too much to do with the female since he joined but she did seem to be quite harsh. In Fact, Valkyrie hadn't had much to do with any of them, he had remained silent, did even the other pack members know his name? Frankly he didn't care, all he had to do know was put in his part to the pack, and in turn the rest will be taken care of by others.

Valkyrie had no intention of really getting to know the others, he would show what he could do, return to the pack and sleep. His black eyes opened rather suddenly, without blinking after it, he looked to see the wolf, so called Xanthos, talking to Storm. He grumbled and straightened himself up, sitting upright and proud, looking down towards them from the log he had perched himself upon for sleep.

Eiros shook himself, having spent most of the early morning out and about, his fur felt heavy and hot now. He eyed his so called pack mates, they looked more like half done prey to him, but it was his leaders job to accept members not his. Had it been these creatures never would have made it in. Shaking his head at his own stupidity for just thinking of the little things he trotted to the opposite edge of where one of his leaders, Valkyrie, had splayed sleeping.

It was a waste to be sleeping at this time when they could be doing something productive like him. Instead they stat and did nothing, letting their muscles and bones weaken, fine by him should he ever have to fight he would be the fit one and they could all very well leave him alone. He doubted the need to fight would come but Eiros was not raised to be lazy, he was taught to be cautious, no matter how much he had loathed his family at least he had walked away with some much needed sense.

With those thoughts moving on Eiros started to listen to his basic needs of the body. He wondered if these wolves felt like hunting, or he would just have to do it himself. He sat and pondered whether it was worth asking as he chewed on a nearby stick.

Raylex padded silently through the forest. He moved with the wind making sure he was up wind from his pack mates the whole time. He crouched low behind a bush making sure he wasn't seen.
"Who will be the lucky one I scare this mourning?" he asked him self quietly. Really his pack mates should be use to this.
Every mourning Raylex woke up early and when out for a walk. He made sure he was gone long enough fro the rest of his friends to get up. When he knew they would be up she would spin around and stalk back to camp using his, sentry skills. He then chose one or two wolves to sneak up on a scare.
"I could scare Storm, but she's my alpha" His amber orbs fell upon Xanthos. The only member by whom he new by name.... Well besides Storm. '"Jake pot!" he muttered.
He slowly made his way right behind the talking pair. At the most inconvenient moment he jump out behind the male and said in the cheeriest voice he could.

"GOOD MOURNING XANTHOS!!"

The she-wolf glared at the bird, as it was picking up what Dani suspected; was an insect. Judging but its actions, she guessed that the thrush had no more brain than a turkey. It was stupid to be scavenging around the ground, particularly at this time of the year, and at the heart of the packs territory. It was strange to even see prey in this area.
Dani lunged forward, still in her crouching position. Her tail was placed neatly on the mossy ground, balancing her weight out so that she did not topple over. The bright-coloured bird hopped towards a large tree, it’s wings facing the red wolf. Danielle kept her gaze on the creature, but continued edging forward to it. Her movements were silent, the thrush didn’t seem to have picked up her paw steps through the ground, which was not something new to be amazed about.
Just as she was planning to leap out of the bracken, an urgent call escaped a bird in the tree. Eyes wide open, Dani didn’t hesitate any longer. She jumped on top of the small bird, it’s beak trying to open and squeal for help. “Thank you for this food”, she muttered with closed eyes before delivering a deathly bite to the animals spine. She looked up to the tree to find that its friend had left, which made the female want to sprint back to the den even more.
Eventually she quickened her pace and entered the clearing, the thrush hanging in her mouth, dead. Dani concluded to not eat the animal herself, as feeding the others was far more important and it may make them trust her. Trotting towards a large log, she nosed the small creature onto it, in hopes that it would catch one of her pack-mates attention.
Glimpsing at Storm, she hoped to have pleased her by the fresh-kill. Padding over to the female, she looked at her with admiring eyes before dipping her head respectfully towards the leader and walking off to clean herself.

Hali trotted down the newly worn path they had made to the den. She had a fish hanging from her moth which she had caught in a nearby stream. Shaking through the thicker bushes that surrounded the den, Hali dropped her fish on a log already occupied by a thrush. She wasn't sure who had caught it, but it looked good. She resisted, since she had already had a few fish down by the stream that had been too small to be worth bringing back.

Looking around, she spotted a female grooming herself and decided to wander over and talk to her. Hali had very much disliked the period where she had been alone, and was happy to be back in the company of wolves. She was eager to get to know them better! "So, what's yer story?" she asked, sitting down beside the female and wrapping her fluffy white tipped tail around her skinny legs.

Xanthos' ears flicked around as other pack members moved about. One wolf he didn't notice any sound from was Raylex. The sudden shouting of the male in his ear, caused him to jump back in fright. "Ahh!" he shouted, his paws stumbling over one another, getting tangled and leaving him on the ground.

Looking up he saw that it was only Raylex. He tried to put on an angry face but couldn't, letting out laughter instead. "How dare you do that, Raylex!" he barked, a playful growl ending his sentence. Getting up the small wolf leapt at the male in an effort to bowl him over and start a play-fight.

Raylex laughed at the wolf as he stumbled all over the place! "That was... ahh!" He was pushed back by the small male. "No fare!" He growled playfully. "I wasn't ready!"
Raylex let out a small, unnoticeable sigh. There was no way he would win. We was a weakling. He even called itself that. He flicked his tail back and forth and tried to push the ale off. "MOVE!" He yelled, trying to hold back a laugh. "Stop sitting on me!"

A brown wolf with what seemed to be, black socks, entered the area through a path. Dani paused her cleaning, lifting up her head to see this canid - her body still in a position for washing her back.
The female held a fish in her mouth, which she soon placed beside the thrush on the old log which was covered in moss, similar to the ground where Dani had found her appetizing meal. The she-wolf watched her move as she seemed to be walking towards her.

"So, what's yer story?"

She blinked at her. The voice of this wolf was different, unlike any she had heard before. "Hello", Dani replied calmly. Her gaze fell upon the females white fluffy tail, as she wrapped it around her paws. "I do not have a story worth sharing", she finally admitted, staring into the wolf's warm eyes. It was true - and even if Dani could be bothered to speak of it, she didn't plan on revealing her whole past to a stranger. Although she was kind, that never got in the way of personal speech. "And you?", she questioned intently.
Danielle flicked her ears to the sound of a rustle of leaves. Two wolves were play-fighting. She smiled warmly at the sight, but soon diverted her attention back towards the female beside her, waiting to hear what she had to say.

My family was good to me, and I've tried to start me own life," Hali paused for a moment. "Well, that ain't exciti' at all, is et?" She gave a small shrug and a small half-smile. Dani's brown eyes flicked with excitement, despite the fact that she was flinching at the same time. She was nervous to be speaking to any wolf right now, as she felt so out of place - however, this canine seemed to make her feel welcome. "It is to me", the female replied in return to what she had said about her past. She tilted her head down, before giving her chest a few quick licks and returning her gaze to the wolf. "I'm Dani", she answered with a gentle tone.

Her tail couldn't stop moving in agitation. The she-wolf faintly remembered something being said about this particular canid which was sitting calmly next to her. Eventually, she spoke her thoughts. "Are you perhaps Hali?", Dani asked. The red wolf rubbed her head on her new pack-mates shoulder in a sign of friendship. "It's a pleasure to meet you", she barked before settling comfortably down once more, a broad grin covering her muzzle.

Jackpot Grove Storm

When Xanthos came over with a question, Storm
found that there was at least one who was serious about getting
something done. Or not. The male soon leaped into a fray with two other
wolves. Rising to her paws, the grey female let a snarl rip the air.
      "
Stop wasting time with your foolish games!" she ordered harshly. Her eyes narrowed as she glanced at each of the three.

      "
iYou three will scout the territory and find a herd to be hunted." With that, she turned to see that Hali was speaking with one, so she left them be. Her gaze then fell upon the male that stood at the edge of the clearing. Deciding that he needed something to be doing as well, Storm slipped over to him. "And what are you doing?" she questioned. It would be high time that this pack, however helpless it looked, was whipped into shape.

Raylex gave one last push an slid out from under Xanthos. 'Well she's no fun,' he thought. He shook off his anger and frustration and flicked his tail. He felt bad for upsetting their leader. He sighed and let his sadness slip away. Thinking it a waste. And turned to the brute who was previously sitting on him.

"Lets go I guess," He said turning to leave. He stopped one last question floating in his mind. "What do we do when we find the herd? Hunt? Come back and tell you were it is?" there were multiple possibilities and Ray didn't want to be yelled at again for messing his job up.

He remembered his brother would always yell at him for, messing around, or screwing something up. He chuckled at the memory, 'She is just like him....' he thought, 'Just 10 times worse,' He shook him self out of his day dream and turned back to Stom. Seeing what she wanted him to do.

Xanthos grinned at Raylex. "No way, wolf. This little guy likes being top dog. And you want me to sit on you?" A sly grin slipped onto his lips as he moved to sit down on top of the male. That was until Storm shouted. The smile dropped from his face as he moved away from Raylex.

He let out a little whimper, sorry to have the female angry with them. Nodding to the male he turned to leave. A hunt was always something to help lighten the mood. Everyone was much better to be around with full stomachs. Nudging Raylex, he muttered, "You can just give them a howl. I suppose everyone will just meet us there." Moving off Xanthos headed for the hunting grounds.

Valkyrie stretched out over the log looking at the wolves around him. Eiros or so he thought he was called, small wolf. His ears flicked at the male. He looked sturdy enough though. He looked to be more the hunter type that a fighter or defender, like himself. Valkyrie's lips curled slightly as he looked at the male. He seemed to be disappointed in the rest of the pack that was resting.

Valk got to his paws, standing atop the log. He jumped off, landing softly on his paws. Unseen and Unheard. He looked as the other Alpha Hali, entered and started to talk to a female that sat on her own. This pack had filled with so many species of wolf already. Valk felt a little a-stranged at it. Maned wolves, Timber wolves, Arabian wolves and Tundra wolves, and who knew what else living together? Would it all end okay? Valk gave a snort as he sat. He saw that Xanthos and Raylex had started to play fight. Immature Morons.

They were soon silenced by the Storm. Valkyrie grinned, they deserved it, only ones to play were pups, not adults. Adults had to have duty, and a good sense of it. Respect, loyalty and self-discipline were also important. He looked as the female walked over. He stood his ground, he wasnt about to be treated the same way as those pups, regardless of her rank. He was loyal and respectful but believed in being treated right when it was to be.

"And what are you doing?"

Valkyrie looked at the female. His nose and lips twitched again, he restrained himself from a growl, only a small low grumble as he forced himself to lower his head slightly, out of respect. He wasn't used to being ordered by a female. He cleared his throat and in his thick Russian accent spoke. "I am not doing anything, Madame" his words held the underlying resent of having two females in charge, not a male. It would be something that he would have to get used to, that and returning to Pack Life.

The male walked to the edge of the pack and sat, looking at them, wondering who would notice him first. He lowered his fur and retsed his tail down, sighing and waiting for one of them to see his rusty pelt. The male coughed, his vision clouding. His throat dry.

He parted his lips, searching for air, but finding none. The wolf choked and fought to keep himself awake. Pain submerged his body in a whirlwind of fear and relief. He would die, but be free from pain and thirst. He would lose her loved ones and dreams, but be free from hunger and sorrow.

The Maned Wolf put the odds together, for every con there was a pro. The red wolf let go, floating into blackness.

{ A L K A T R A Z }
'In the end, it is going to be alright. If it is not alright, then it is not the end.'

Alkatraz groaned. He had slept in. The hessian opened his eyes, and hesitantly got up. Alkatraz wagged his fluffy appendage, leaping out of the bushes he had concealed his tall, thin frame in. 'Morning.' Alkatraz mumbled, tiredly. He stretched, his tail curling in the movement.

The hessian also yawned, his maw stretching to release his curling tongue. The luxurious gesture loosened the hessian up enough to shake all the 'tired' off of him. Alkatraz sighed, watching Storm yell at the pack members. He sat, and licked his paw idly.

Alkatraz, when he had first arrived in this multi-species pack, had fancied the hot-headed Storm. Now, not so much. Alkatraz didn't believe in love, love was a foolish game. Much like such of the immature pup's games.

He sighed, shaking his head. Crazy, crazy, crazy him. The hessian decided to go for a walk. He padded out, yelping when he stumbled over another Maned Wolf.

Raylex sighed and padded after the brute. 'I'm not a hunter,' he thought, 'How am I suppose to know,' Ray shook his pelt and followed a step behind. He began to zone out, just barely making it by trees. He started thinking about every thing. How he ran into these wolves, why he left his old pack. Wondered what is siblings were up to. It was a lot that filled his ind but if kept him occupied.
He snapped back and padded so he was next to Xanthos. It was quite, much to quite for Ray's liking
. "So where are you from?" he asked with a smile, trying to start a conversation.

"I'm Hali indeed, and the pleasure is mine," Hali said as she gave the female a rub back. "Would ye like to come huntin' with me? The amount of bellies to fill seems to have gone up recently, and we don't want anyone with dem growling!" Hali tilted her head to the side and gave a half-grin. She would love to get to know this female better, and a hunt could do just that.

The Maned lifted his form with a grunt. He coughed and then allowed his torso to go limp, resting his cranium on his paws. The orange pelted wolf looked around and wheezed. "Water, would be lovely," he rasped through ivory fangs and a dry, rose tongue.

The male bit down on some bright green grass ahead of his maw and chewed, allowing the juices to leak over his tongue. He cleared his throat and spoke again, more clearly. "May I please have water?" his dull eyes looked at the wolves around him.

The hessian cocked a curious eyebrow at the thin, recently aroused hessian. 'Fine,' he sighed, gently. The tall, lithe male padded towards a nearby estuary, his auditories twitching. Ka gathered water in a broad leaf, and took it to the hessian. Alkatraz was ready to dump it on the male's head, but thought otherwise. He dropped the water, sighing as it sloshed over the dusty ground.

He needed a solution. The hessian perked his auds, a lightbulb going on in his mind. The hessian dug a hole, and lined it with thin, smooth leaves. He fetched more water, his eyes intent the whole way. He poured the water off of a new leaf into the leaf-lined bowl, nodding his head with satisfaction when he scanned his project.

'There.'

Shuffling her paws due to insecurity, the she-wolf agreed to go on this hunt with her new companion - Hali. "Perhaps your could show me around the territory while we're at it. I know a way of doing both things at once", Dani looked at the female with wide eyes. "I should eat first though, I'm rather hungry".

Hopping onto all fours, the canid strolled over towards the generally large and tasty fish. Placing it on the ground beside the old log, she ate it quickly, her eyes darting up once of twice as she observed a wolf who was dropping water beside another. Both canines had the same build as Hali, strangely enough. Once she finished her fulfilling meal, Danielle licked her muzzle, smacking her jaw together at the delicious food. She was enjoying pack life very much

Trotting over back to the female, the she-wolf glanced back at the wolf which was now digging a hole. Curiosity sparked in her eyes, but she rotated her head slowly back to Hali. "Well. I suppose we will go now?", she questioned in an assuming manner.

Jackpot Grove Storm

Storm waited with what might have been patience as the male responded.

"I am not doing anything, Madame."

And that was exactly what she had thought. Her eyes narrowed with a clear threat. "And that is exactly what is so disgusting. You are wasting valuable time by lying around and doing nothing, you slob. So get up and get to work. The borders need marked. You, myself, and another will partake on the venture to mark the borders and will also scout out for penetrations of the borders while we are at it."

Her head swung to look over the pack. In the mean time, her gaze swept over them and picked over which wolf would accompany them. It landed upon Eiros. Trotting to his side, Storm informed him that they were going to scout and mark borders, and that he had been chosen to go on the excursion. Storm was getting irritated by all this lounging. She had been told that she needed to relax every now and again, but she was too stubborn to actually listed to anyone.

But Stormy, that Valkyrie character is sooo handsome Toyed her mind frivolously. Storm snorted at it. That was not something that she would let herself think for any amount of time. Her mind did oh so like to mess with her. Good thing that she could just ignore it. Arguing was pointless, because it was like arguing with herself, and most of the time, she could not win.
